Have you even found that shopping for a right pair of sunglasses can be rather frustrating? First, there are so many of them to choose from, and then, none of those pretty and cool frames you try seem to make you look good, even the really expensive ones! Spare yourself some aggravation by learning a little bit about the type of frames that fit your face shape the best before you start shopping.
The rules are pretty simple: People with small faces can wear smaller sunglasses, and people with bigger faces can wear bigger ones. Ideally, the shape of the frame should be in contrast to your face shape, so if you have a rectangular face, try rounded sunglasses. Here are some more tips on what to look for when shopping for sunglasses:
Oval Face: You are lucky if you have an oval face because almost any kind of sunglasses will suit you. Try out the latest styles and experiment to figure out which one you find most comfortable to wear.
Round Face: Look for the frames that will make your face look longer and thinner than it actually is. To do that, buy sunglasses that are slightly wider than the broadest part of your face. You can add definition by buying a pair that is rectangular as this makes you look like you have a longer face.
Diamond Face: A diamond shape face has high cheekbones and a narrow forehead and chin. The best sunglasses shape for this type of face is oval because it will soften the face’s shape quite a bit. You can also try slightly curved square frames. However, the important thing to keep in mind is that the frame should not be wider than the top of the cheekbone.
Square Shape: With a strong jaw line, wide forehead and cheekbones, this is a very angular face. You can reduce the angles by buying sunglasses that give the face some definition, like cat-eyed varieties or oval shades.
Oblong Shape: This face shape needs frames that will make it look less wide and shorter than it really is, so buy sunglasses that are not wider than the widest part of the face. The best is round or square shapes.
Triangle Shape: With a narrow jaw, and a wide forehead, this face shape needs to have the lower portion softened so as to look less sharp. You can achieve that by buying sunglasses that highlight the eyes, like cat-eyed styles or metal frames that have rimless bottoms.
Besides face shape, it is also very important to look at skin color. People with pale skin can try frames that are slightly colored with hints of rose or amber. Darker complexions can try shades that are lighter such as clear, silver/gold, etc. (Black is not a good color for people with darker skin – delete this line.)
And what about hair? Soft and curly hair looks good with rimless frames and delicate shapes, whereas very curly hair looks good with small frames that sit within the hairline. People with short hair can try round frames, and people with very short hair can pull off colorful and bold designs.
