Anne Hathaway’s Glasses

Ever since her breakout role as Mia Thermopolis in the movie The Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway hasn’t had to wear spectacles for many of her movie roles. In that 2001 film, she plays an awkward, intelligent, frizzy-haired teenage girl who undergoes a remarkable physical transformation after discovering she is heir to the thrown of the fictional nation of Genovia. However, in her personal life, Hathaway still rocks the geek chic look, indeed she was parading some designer frames around at the recent premiere of Rio in Hollywood, California.

Hathaway’s career has really been thriving in recent years, ever since her Oscar nomination for Rachel Getting Married in 2008. On top of hosting the latest Academy Awards ceremony, she recently appeared in Alice in Wonderland as the White Queen, in Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal, and of course, in Rio as Jewel, one of the last female macaws of her species.

Hathaway’s red and black tortoise shell frames accented her hair and gave her a subdued but classy look for the premiere of this family-friendly comedy. Together with her ruffled purple blouse, these glasses conveyed the 28-year-old actresses fun-loving nature, while simultaneously revealing that she doesn’t take herself exceedingly seriously.

Her next big role is already garnering heavy buzz, and the word on the street is she will be cast as Catwoman in the continuation of Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight series. Can we expect to see her in some sexy cat eye glasses? If the previous actresses who have played Catwoman are any indication, the answer might sadly be no.
